History

1969
Ted J. Greiner (President & Founder) started out as the neighborhood kid doing gardening, lawn care, snow removal, and odd jobs.

1976
Hired first employee and bought a 1970 Dodge Dart and a small wooden trailer to carry the growing line of equipment. Named company "Ted's Job Bank" providing gardening, construction, decks, home repairs, and handyman services.

1977
President started dating Diane (future Vice President).

1979
Bought first yellow pick-up truck. The bright yellow was established as our company vehicle color.

1981
We incorporated and changed the name to "TJB-INC" and concentrated exclusively on landscaping and related services.

1982
After Ted's college graduation, TJB-INC. experienced tremendous growth now that studies no longer took up some of his time. TJB-INC operated 6 days a week.

1983
President married Vice President and moved the business to an old apple farm (cir 1910) in Southern Hamden with barns for storage and numerous garden displays.

1983-98
We experienced continued success and grew our business so much that we had outgrown our Southern Hamden location and looked to expand our operations. In 1988 & 1992, our 2 (future?) Vice-Presidents were born. With the additions to the familly, TJB-INC now only operates 5 days a week and the office is closed when ever the children have an after-school event that we can attend.

1998
Bought land & constructed new warehouse & office facility with large display-gardens highlighting many of our services offered to our customers. We have hundreds of plants and thousands of flowers, and many specimen plants on display. Our large water garden (one of many) has 5 waterfalls, 3 streams, stocked with Koi, several kinds of goldfish, snails and various aquatic plants which mimic a natural water setting. We are honored to be nominated & approved as a Certified Natural Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Foundation. With all of the native wildlife that our displays draw, from beautiful Butterflies, birds, frogs, ducks, racoons, deer and more. You never know who will drop in for a visit when you are sitting on a bench next to our ponds. Besides the local fair, we attract migrating birds that stop in for a drink or refressing bath before continuing their journey. Our gardens are open 24/7 for your viewing.

1999
We launched our On-Line E-Commerce site. This was the beginning of an interesting journey into the world of retailing. We had so many requests from customers wanting to purchase the materials we used in our day-to-day operations, we felt that this was the wave of the future and created one of the first on-line stores in our industy.

1999-Present
Our display gardens have grown with the addition of PaverArt, Nylon Putting Greens, Specialty Solar & Low-Voltage Lighting, AquaBasin Features, & much more. We have extended our On-Line offerings and expanded the available purchasing forums by adding additional on-line storefronts on Amazon.com, Shopping.com, Nextag.com, PriceGrabber.com, Google Base, Biz-Rate.com and many more. In 2007, our On-Line store processed just under a millon dollars in sales from our loyal customers. We have split the company into the retail and construction divisions.
